Hoax in Egyptair flight MS799 about bomb

An EgyptAir flight No MS799 to Paris has been delayed for nearly an hour due to a security incident related to baggage, an EgyptAir official source reported.

The  source said that during the sterilising security procedures, security personnel suspected a one of the luggage. 

Consequently, the A330-300 plane with 274 passengers on board were evacuated, as a precaution procedure, to re-examine the plane for the safety and security of passengers as well as aircraft.

The plane was moved to a nearby place at Cairo airport and the aircraft was searched by security authorities that confirmed the plane is safe and ready to take off within minuets.

An Egypt Air Boeing 777-200, registration SU-GBS performing flight MS-621 from Kuwait (Kuwait) to Cairo (Egypt) with 304 passengers, was enroute at FL380 over Saudi Arabia when an engine (PW4090) failed prompting the crew to secure the engine. The aircraft drifted down to FL240 and diverted to Sharm el Sheikh (Egypt) for a safe landing about 45 minutes later.

The remainder of the flight was cancelled, the passengers were rebooked onto other flights.

CAIRO: The word "fire" is heard on the cockpit voice recorder of EgyptAir 804 before the plane crashed into the Mediterranean in May, an Egyptian-led investigative committee said Saturday.

Investigators had earlier said the other black box retrieved from the crash site, the data recorder, confirmed that smoke alarms had sounded on board, while soot on wreckage indicates a fire.

"The committee had... started listening to the cockpit voice recordings before the occurrence of the accident; where the existence of 'fire' was mentioned," it said in a statement.

"Still it is too early to determine the reason or the place where that fire started," it said.

The data on the voice recorder had been downloaded earlier this month after it was repaired.

The plane was carrying 40 Egyptians, 15 French, two Iraqis, two Canadians and one passenger each from Algeria, Belgium, Britain, Chad, Portugal, Saudi Arabia and Sudan.

The committee statement said the search for the remains of the passengers has ended.

The ship conducting the search "reached the port of Alexandria today after the end of its mission, which had been extended for the second time, after making sure of the recovery of all human remains at the site of the accident", it said.

Both Egyptian and French judiciary have opened investigations into the mysterious incident, without ruling out a terrorist attack.

The crash followed the bombing of a Russian passenger plane over Egypt's restive Sinai Peninsula last October, killing all 224 passengers and crew.

The Islamic State jihadist group claimed responsibility for that attack, but there has been no such claim linked to the EgyptAir crash.

Egypt's aviation minister had initially said an attack was the more likely explanation, but President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi said there was no theory being favored yet.

EgyptAir said last week that advance compensation payments of $25,000 will be offered to families of the 66 people killed in the crash.

The payments are separate to those expected from insurance companies on behalf of various parties depending on the investigation into the disaster.

Egyptair orders 9 Boeing 737-800NG

EgyptAir (MS, Cairo Int'l) has placed a firm order with Boeing (BOE, Chicago O'Hare) for nine B737-800s at the 2016 Farnborough International Airshow. Eight of the aircraft will be financed by the Dubai Aerospace Enterprise (DAE).

The purchase was previously attributed to an unidentified customer on the US manufacturer's order books.

The ch-aviation aircraft database indicates EgyptAir is a longtime B737 operator having employed seven B737-200Advs and five B737-500s in the past. At present, it operates twenty B737-800s on scheduled flights throughout Egypt as well as to East and West Africa, the Middle East, and Europe

Initial evidence gleaned from the flight data recorder (FDR) of Egyptair flight MS804 indicates the Airbus A320 experienced smoke in two separate locations on the aircraft prior to its crash into the Mediterranean Sea.

The Egyptian investigating committee said that, following the successful cleaning and repair of the FDR in France, it has successfully downloaded the data and is now decoding and validating some 1,200 parameters. The committee added that the recovered data covered the entire flight from takeoff at Paris Charles De Gaulle airport to the point at 37,000 ft. over the Mediterranean “where the accident occurred.”

The EgyptAir A320 was en route from Paris Charles de Gaulle to Cairo May 19 with 66 people on board when itlost radar contact and crashed.

Work is now underway on the next phase of reading and analyzing the data.

There have been reports for some weeks that messages sent by the aircraft’s Aircraft Communications Addressing and Reporting System (ACARS), which sends data on any faults or deviations from the norm to an airline’s home base, indicated the presence of smoke in both a an avionics bay under the flight deck and a lavatory.

“Recorded data is showing a consistency with ACARS messages of lavatory smoke and avionics smoke,” the committee said in a statement, adding: “Some recovered wreckage  parts of the front section  of the aircraft showed signs of high temperature damage and soot.”

Work is now underway to identify the source and cause of those indications.

A recovery operation is continuing to retrieve the aircraft wreckage, which lies around 3,000 feet down in the Mediterranean. Recovery of human remains at the site will also continue until all are retrieved, it said.

The investigating committee said work is continuing at France’s BEA crash investigation bureau to repair the aircraft’s cockpit voice recorder.

French authorities have not found any evidence that the crash of an EgyptAir flight in May was terror-related.

Investigators have launched a manslaughter inquiry into the Flight 804 crash that crashed in the Mediterranean last month, killing all 66 people on board.

The Airbus A320 was flying from Paris to Cairo when it crashed into May 19. The reason for the crash is still unclear.

The pilots made no distress call and no group claimed responsibility for bringing down the aircraft.

Prosecutor's office spokesman Agnes Thibault-Lecuivre said the inquiry into the downed Paris to Cairo flight would be an accident investigation, not a terrorism investigation.

She said authorities are "not at all" favouring the theory the plane was downed deliberately, though the status of the inquiry could eventually change if evidence emerges to that effect. 

Search teams have recovered its two flight recorders, but they suffered damage and Egyptian investigators were unable to download information from the so-called black boxes.

The recorders' memory cards arrived on Monday in Paris, Egyptian investigators said.

Technicians at France's air accident investigation agency, the BEA, will attempt to remove salt damage and repair them, and then send them back to Egypt for analysis. 

While the plane was Egyptian and crashed in Egyptian waters, France can also investigate because the plane was manufactured by France-based Airbus and French citizens were among those killed.

Επισκευάστηκε το μαύρο κουτί που περιέχει τα στοιχεία με τις παραμέτρους της μοιραίας πτήσης MS804 του Airbus της EgytpAir που κατέπεσε στη Μεσόγειο στις 19 Μαΐου, όπως ανακοίνωσε η αρμόδια αιγυπτιακή επιτροπή έρευνας.

Το μαύρο αυτό κουτί «επισκευάστηκε τη Δευτέρα με επιτυχία στα εργαστήρια του γραφείου ερευνών της Γαλλίας για δυστυχήματα», διευκρινίζει η αιγυπτιακή επιτροπή σε ανακοίνωσή της.

Λίγο νωρίτερα χθες το γαλλικό Γραφείο Ερευνών και Αναλύσεων (BEA) είχε ανακοινώσει ότι έλαβε τις κάρτες μνήμης των δύο μαύρων κουτιών του Airbus προκειμένου να επιδιορθωθούν και να καταστεί δυνατή η ανάκτηση των δεδομένων τους.

Τα δύο μαύρα κουτιά τα οποία θεωρούνται σημαντικά για να διευκρινιστούν τα αίτια της συντριβής του αεροπλάνου βρέθηκαν στα μέσα αυτού του μήνα. Ωστόσο οι κάρτες μνήμης τους χρειάζονταν επιδιόρθωση για να καταστεί δυνατή η ανάκτηση των δεδομένων τους και γι’αυτό εστάλησαν στη Γαλλία για να επισκευαστούν.

EgyptAir MS804: The 2 blackboxes will sent to France

On Jun 23rd 2016 Egypt's CAA announced that both blackboxes will be taken to the BEA/France for repairs. The recorders will subsequently be returned to Cairo for data analysis. In the meantime vessel "John Lethbridge" continues to locate and retrieve victims. French forensic doctors have joined Egypt's forensic staff supervising the retrieval in accordance with standard procedures.

Δεν φαίνεται να επιβεβαιώνονται οι ελπίδες των αιγυπτιακών αρχών πως τα μαύρα κουτιά θα έριχναν «φως» στα αίτια της συντριβής του μοιραίου Airbus της EgyptAir.

Τα τμήματα της μνήμης από τα δύο μαύρα κουτιά του αεροσκάφους της EgyptAir που συνετρίβη στη Μεσόγειο, έχουν καταστραφεί, ενώ η αποκατάστασή τους θα απαιτήσει μεγάλο χρονικό διάστημα, όπως επισημαίνουν πηγές προσκείμενες στην επιτροπή διερεύνησης του δυστυχήματος.   

Η επιτροπή πλέον αναμένεται να αναλύσει το βαθμό καταστροφής των δύο μαύρων κουτιών, πριν αποφασίσει εάν μπορούν να επισκευαστούν στην Αίγυπτο ή αν θα πρέπει να αποσταλούν στο εξωτερικό.

Egyptian officials Thursday said they had recovered one of the black boxes from EgyptAir Flight 804, putting them closer to figuring out why the plane crashed into the Mediterranean Sea last month.
A specialized vessel, the John Lethbridge belonging to Deep Ocean Search Ltd., was able to locate and recover the cockpit voice recorder, one of the Airbus Group SE A320 plane’s black boxes. The device was damaged, but the memory unit that retains two hours of conversations from the cockpit was retrieved, Egyptian officials said in a statement.
The flight data recorder, which stores technical parameters on the flight, hasn’t been recovered yet.
Egypt said it was preparing to move the recovered memory unit from the ship to the Egyptian coast town of Alexandria.

Όμως δεν είναι γνωστό εάν η συσκευή είναι ακόμα συνδεδεμένη πάνω στο κουτί. Τα συντρίμμια που έχουν συγκεντρωθεί μέχρι τώρα θα παραδοθούν στα μέλη της υπό αιγυπτιακή ηγεσία επιτροπής έρευνας αφού ολοκληρωθούν οι «τυπικές διαδικασίες» από τους ιατροδικαστικούς που συγκεντρώνουν στοιχεία, σύμφωνα με την έρευνα.

EgyptAir jet lands in Uzbekistan after hoax bomb threat - BBC News

An EgyptAir plane that was forced to land in Uzbekistan due to a hoax bomb threat has been cleared to resume its journey from Cairo to Beijing.

All 118 passengers and 17 crew on board the Airbus A330-220 were evacuated at Urgench International Airport.

The aircraft was searched by Uzbek security forces but no explosive device was found, Egyptian officials said.

Three weeks ago, an EgyptAir flight from Paris to Cairo carrying 66 people crashed into the Mediterranean Sea.

The cause of the crash remains a mystery, although Egyptian officials have said an act of terrorism is more likely than a technical failure.

French investigators said last week that signals from one of the plane's black boxes had been detected about 290km (180 miles north) of the Egyptian coast.

'Anonymous caller'

The chairman of EgyptAir, Safwat Mussallam, told the AFP news agency that Flight MS955 left Cairo at 21:55 GMT (23:55 Cairo time) on Tuesday and was scheduled to land in Beijing at 07:34 GMT (15:34 Beijing time) on Wednesday.

During the flight, an anonymous caller telephoned security agents in Cairo to say a bomb was on board the aircraft and the pilot was told to land at the nearest airport.

The plane eventually touched down at Urgench, about 840km (600 miles) west of the Uzbek capital Tashkent, at 03:00 GMT (08:00 Tashkent time) on Wednesday, Uzbekistan Airways said in a statement.

"The aircraft was evacuated, searched and the result of the search was negative, we were told by the Uzbek authorities, who gave us the authorisation to take off again," Mr Mussallam said.

"We must take any warning seriously," he added.

Egyptian officials told the Associated Press news agency that the plane resumed its journey to Beijing about four hours after landing in Urgench.

The official Chinese news agency, Xinhua, also said the bomb threat was a hoax.

Φάρσα αποδείχθηκε πως ήταν το τηλεφώνημα για βόμβα που εξανάγκασε σε μη προγραμματισμένη προσγείωση ένα αεροσκάφος της EgyptAir, το οποίο εκτελούσε την πτήση από το Κάιρο προς το Πεκίνο και προσγειώθηκε προληπτικά σε αεροδρόμιο του Ουζμπεκιστάν.

Αξιωματούχοι της υπηρεσίας πολιτικής αεροπορίας της Αιγύπτου ανακοίνωσαν ότι το αεροσκάφος με 118 επιβάτες εκκενώθηκε και έγινε έρευνα, αλλά δεν βρέθηκαν εκρηκτικά. «Το αεροπλάνο ετοιμάζεται να συνεχίσει το ταξίδι του, ευτυχώς ήταν φάρσα» είπαν οι αξιωματούχοι.

Μετά την πτώση της πτήσης MS804 στη Μεσόγειο στις 19 Μαΐου αρκετές είναι οι περιπτώσεις των τηλεφωνημάτων για βόμβα που δέχονται πτήσεις της Egyptair, ενώ ευτυχώς όλες τους αποδεικνύεται ότι είναι κακόγουστες φάρσες.

Egyptian national airliner EgyptAir canceled a Bangkok-bound flight early on Wednesday after receiving an anonymous tip claiming there was a bomb onboard the plane.

After carrying out a search of the airplane with the help of bomb experts and sniffer dogs, in addition to investigating all of the 226 passengers onboard, the security team concluded that there was nothing to be found on the aircraft that would indicate the existence of an explosive device.

Although the bomb threat was deemed false, EgyptAir Flight 960, which was scheduled to depart from Cairo International Airport on Tuesday evening, was canceled altogether after a three-hour delay.

Στοιχεία που ενισχύουν την θεωρία ότι το αεροσκάφος της EgyptAir συνετρίβη λόγω τεχνικών προβλημάτων, έφερε στο φως το γαλλικό τηλεοπτικό δίκτυο France3.

Σύμφωνα με αυτά, το τελευταίο 24ωρο πριν χαθεί στην Μεσόγειο, στο πιλοτήριο του μοιραίου Airbus είχαν ενεργοποιηθεί τρεις φορές τα συστήματα προειδοποίησης, υποχρεώνοντας το αεροσκάφος σε ισάριθμες αναγκαστικές προσγειώσεις.

Τα περιστατικά καταγράφηκαν λίγο μετά την απογείωσή του από τρία διαφορετικά αεροδρόμια. Υποχρεώθηκε να επιστρέψει και να περάσει από τεχνικό έλεγχο, χωρίς να εντοπιστεί κάποια βλάβη.

«Τα νέα στοιχεία είναι σημαντικά. Δεν μπορούμε να γνωρίζουμε τι ακριβώς έγινε αλλά σίγουρα δεν είναι φυσιολογικό να επιστρέφει ένα αεροσκάφος τρεις φορές αναφέροντας τεχνικό πρόβλημα και να μην εντοπίζεται τίποτα», δήλωσε πρώην επικεφαλής της υπηρεσίας διερεύνησης αεροπορικών δυστυχημάτων της Γαλλίας.

Κάθε φορά που σε ένα αεροσκάφος ενεργοποιούνται τα συστήματα προειδοποίησης, εκπέμπονται αυτόματα σήματα, τα οποία καταγράφονται στο σύστημα Acars.

Το Airbus της EgyptAir με 66 επιβαίνοντες χάθηκε από τα ραντάρ τα ξημερώματα της 19ης Μαϊου.

The Airbus A320's flight MS804 EgyptAir which crashed into the Mediterranean Sea on the night of Wednesday 18 to Thursday 19 May, was forced to turn around and emergency landing at least 3 times during the 24 hours before the crash, according to information from French public TV France 3 gathered Wednesday 1 June.

The aircraft made six rotations between Asmara (Eritrea), Cairo (Egypt), Tunis (Tunisia) and Paris when it suddenly disappeared from radar screens. 

In its different rotations between 18 and 19 May, ACARS messages sent to the ground signaled anomalies on board shortly after takeoff from 3 airports. We do not know yet the exact nature.

These alert procedures have caused each time a technical audit on the ground but the aircraft was allowed to take off again to continue his journey over the Mediterranean.

Egyptair MS804: Blackbox found?

On Jun 1st 2016 Egypt's Civil Aviation Authority reported, that the French vessel "Laplace" has located pings presumed to originate from one of two black boxes. Vessel "John Lethbridge" of DOS is estimated to join the search in a week in order to retrieve the blackbox(es). The search for the second pinger continues.

On Jun 1st 2016 the French BEA confirmed that Egyptian Authorities have confirmed a "signal that may come from one of the recorders" of flight MS-804. The BEA did NOT confirm that a black box has been located though (unlike many media are reporting as breaking news).

Signal from ELT (emergency locator transmitter) was received by satellite on day of crash.

Egyptian search teams detected an emergency signal from EgyptAir Flight 804 that could help them locate the aircraft’s fuselage on the floor of the Mediterranean Sea, the lead investigator into the disaster said Thursday.

The investigator, Capt. Ayman Al Moqadem, told Egypt’s flagship state newspaper Al Ahram that the detection of the signal by satellite narrowed the search zone for the main body of the plane to a radius of about 3 miles.
