Brussels Airlines resumes flights to India from March 2017

As from March 2017 Brussels Airlines will start flights to Mumbai.

The Indian metropolis will be connected to Brussels Airport 5 times a week. It will the first time that the Belgian airline lands on the Asian continent and it reinforces even more its hub in Brussels, in close cooperation with Star Alliance partner Air India.

Since last March, Belgium and India are no longer connected. Brussels Airlines is to change this as from March 2017, with 5 direct flights to Mumbai’s modern airport Chhatrapati Shivaji. Situated on the West Coast, Mumbai is the state capital of Maharashtra and, with its 20 million inhabitants, is ranked in the top 10 of the world’s largest megacities. The city, that bore the name Bombay until 1995, is home to all of India’s big financial institutions and corporations. Furthermore it is the maritime hub of the country, the stronghold of the famous Bollywood film industry and the heart of many other economic sectors (diamonds, pharmaceuticals, IT,…).

Thanks to a collaboration with Star Alliance partner Air India, Brussels Airlines passengers can connect seamlessly on domestic flights to other Indian cities and regions. The Mumbai-Brussels flight schedule will allow connections to many European, African and American destinations in the Brussels Airlines network.

To operate the Mumbai route, Brussels Airlines expands its fleet with a tenth Airbus A330, with a Business Class and an Economy Class and the recently introduced Economy Privilege.

Brussels A319 at Toulouse on Jul 10th 2016, bird strike

A Brussels Airlines Airbus A319-100, registration OO-SSW performing flight SN-3669 from Brussels (Belgium) to Toulouse (France), was on final approach to Toulouse's runway 32L when the crew initiated a go-around from about 1000 feet MSL due to a bird strike onto the nose gear. The aircraft climbed to 5000 feet and entered a hold while the crew worked the checklists, then commenced another approach and landed safely on Toulouse's runway 32L about 25 minutes after the go-around. 

The aircraft was unable to depart for the return flight, the return flight SN-3670 was cancelled.

The aircraft remained on the ground for about 17 hours, then positioned back to Brussels as flight SN-9970, but has not yet resumed service about 30 hours after landing in Toulouse.

Brussels Airlines launches Economy Plus – Aviation Gazette

ZAVENTEM – Brussels Airlines introduces its intercontinental fleet Economy Plus. Passengers in the new class have more legroom and can adjust their seat further back. Economy Plus will be furnished in the first four rows of the Economy Class cabin.
Other extras to travelers who choose to upgrade to Eonomy Plus a glass of champagne before the meal. Customers also receive luxury items like toilet bag, warm cloth before meals, linen pillow, blanket and a gift box of Neuhaus chocolates.
The seats in Economy Plus are the same as in regular Economy Class. The seat rows are placed further apart, increasing the leg room. The ‘recline’ of the backrest has been increased from eight to twenty degrees.
For Economy Plus is a fixed fee of 120 euros per one way flight. The surcharge applies to everyone, including passengers who pay a special rate. Currently, there is a special introduction fare of 99 euros. Twenty thousand passengers receive Brussels Airlines in July and August, a free upgrade.
The introduction of Economy Plus seems a logical step for Brussels Airlines. “We saw a growing demand for a product that is between Business Class and Economy Class,” says Lars Redeligx, Chief Commercial Officer, Brussels Airlines. Economy Plus service starts on flights from 1 July.
In total, in all Airbus A330 Brussels Airlines 32 Economy Plus seats available in the first four rows of the Economy Class cabin. On an annual basis will involve 180,000 seats.

Brussels Airlines to add two more A330s in 2016/17

Brussels Airlines (SN, Brussels National) will acquire two more A330 aircraft over the next twelve to fifteen months for use in expanding its international footprint. ch-aviation research indicates one of the jets will be an A330-300 formerly in service with Singapore Airlines (SQ, Singapore Changi).

In a statement, the Belgian carrier said one of the aircraft would arrive in spring next year and would be used to open up 5x weekly flights to Toronto Pearson, Canada beginning in April. The route will fall vacant in late March following Indian carrier Jet Airways' decision to switch its transatlantic hub fromBrussels National to Amsterdam with effect from March 2016.

With Jet Airways gone, Brussels Airlines has bandied together with fellow Star Alliance membersUnited Airlines (UA, Chicago O'Hare) and Air Canada (AC, Montréal Trudeau) will enhance their presence in the transatlantic market. The Canadian carrier will codeshare on Brussels Airlines' Toronto flights while United will add a second daily flight to Newark which the Belgian carrier will codeshare on. In parallel, Brussels Airlines will add a sixth weekly flight to Washington Dulles.

The other aircraft, the airline's tenth A330, will be used to expand Brussels Airlines' African network with the launch of two new routes. Libreville and Lagos are said to be under consideration.

Brussels Airlines currently operates three A330-200s and five A330-300s.

Brussels Airlines invests in intercontinental growth

   

Brussels Airlines plans a major expansion of its long haul network. Their fleet will welcome two additional Airbus A330 aircraft. Next spring the airline launches flights to Toronto, now that Jet Airways has announced it is leaving the route. In addition, the offer to Africa and the US will be expanded. The investment leads to additional jobs, an important passenger- and freight growth and what’s more, it reinforces Brussels Airport more than ever as an important Star Alliance and Lufthansa Group hub.

Today Brussels Airlines presents an ambitious network- and fleet plan that will enable the airline to continue its growth pace in the future.

 In spring next year, Brussels Airlines will add a ninth Airbus A330 to its fleet. This long-range aircraft allows to connect Brussels Airport and Toronto 5 times a week starting from April, to fill the void of the departure of Jet Airways. Sales of the Toronto flights start next week.

At the same time Brussels Airlines continues to focus on African growth. In spring 2016 extra flights to Kigali (Rwanda) and Entebbe (Uganda) are added to the schedule, bringing the flight frequency to 6 and 4 flights a week respectively.

In the coming 12 to 15 months a tenth A330 will join the fleet to expand the African offer. Brussels Airlines is currently analyzing two new routes, i.e.Lagos and Libreville. More information will be shared later. 

New destination Toronto

Toronto is the capital of the Canadian province of Ontario and, with its more than 2.6 million inhabitants, the most populous city in the country. Toronto and the Lake Ontario region are the economic and financial heart of Canada. The city is the global hub of  Brussels Airlines’ Star Alliance partner Air Canada, who offers connections to many other destinations in Canada and the US.

Brussels Airlines will operate 5 flights a week to Toronto starting from April.

United, Air Canada and Brussels Airlines join forces to compensate as much as possible the departure of Jet Airways by further increasing their offer on the Transatlantic market to the benefit of their customers. Air Canada will commercialize the new Brussels Airlines Brussels-Toronto flights as a codeshare partner and United will increase its existing flight offer to Newark from next year by operating a second daily flight out of Brussels, which Brussels Airlines will add to its offer as a codeshare destination. In parallel, Brussels Airlines will add a sixth weekly flight to Washington D.C.

In total, the three Transatlantic Joint Venture partners offer six Transatlantic destinations from Brussels Airport in 2016.

 India under study

Brussels is also analyzing together with its Star Alliance partner Air India, the opening of a route to Mumbai.

The expansion means that about 140 new jobs will be created for the flying staff (cockpit and cabin crew). At Brussels Airport the investment does not only lead to extra jobs for Brussels Airlines check-in and aircraft maintenance; it also has a positive impact on the external service providers who take care of tarmac- and freight handling and flight catering.

Brussels Airlines (SN, Brussels National) is planning to phase out its fleet of twelve ARJ-100s by the end of 2017 airline president Bernard Gustin has told the AirFinance Journal.

Speaking during the interview, Gustin said the Lufthansa (LH, Frankfurt Int'l) subsidiary would replace the aircraft with a combination of A319-100s and A320s. The regional jets average 17.2 years of age.

The Belgian carrier is primarily an Airbus Industrie (AIB, Toulouse Blagnac) operator employing seventeen A319-100s, seven A320-200s, three A330-200s and five A330-300s. Leased hulls include two Dash 8-400 (wet-leased from flybe. (BE, Exeter)) and one ERJ-145 (wet-leased from bmi regional (BM, Aberdeen Dyce)).
