Aer Lingus launches flights to Newark

Irish airline Aer Lingus has launched a new daily service from Dublin to Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey.

The new year-round route marks the latest addition to the carrier’s fast-growing transatlantic network.

Only 40 mins from downtown Manhattan, Newark represents another great option for those keen to visit the Big Apple, complementing Aer Lingus’ existing double-daily services to New York JFK via Dublin and six-times weekly flights via Shannon.

Guests from a range of UK departure points including Manchester, Newcastle and Edinburgh have already taken advantage of the new route thanks to Aer Lingus’ easy transatlantic connections from 19 key UK airports.

When connecting in Dublin, Aer Lingus guests from the UK can pre-clear US Customs and Immigration allowing them to pass through domestic channels upon landing for a smooth and swift arrival in the USA.

Newark is the second of three new transatlantic routes to commence this summer, marking the single largest expansion of Aer Lingus’ transatlantic network in its history.

A direct new service to Los Angeles began in May and in late September a new four-times weekly service will launch from Dublin to Hartford, Connecticut.

Declan Kearney, director of communications, Aer Lingus, said: “We are delighted to commence our new direct service from Dublin to Newark, New Jersey, offering our guests from the UK even more options when visiting the Big Apple with Aer Lingus. With Hartford to follow in just a few weeks’ time, we will be operating 28 daily services across the Atlantic by the end of this month.”

Aer Lingus has growth in North America

Irish carrier Aer Lingus has grown faster than any other airline between Europe and North America over the last six years.
The airline currently flies to eight North American cities on ten transatlantic routes, with a further two exciting destinations joining the network next month.
Aer Lingus will begin a daily service on September 1st from Dublin direct to Newark, New Jersey and a new four-times weekly service to Hartford, Connecticut from September 28th.
During their connection in Dublin, Aer Lingus guests from the UK can pre-clear US Customs and Immigration allowing them to pass through domestic channels upon landing for a smooth and swift arrival in the USA.
Latest figures show that flying via Dublin is fast becoming the natural and convenient choice for British travellers visiting the United States.
More passengers than ever are flying stateside via the Irish capital, with Aer Lingus’ one-stop transatlantic services from Birmingham, Manchester and Liverpool airports via Dublin enjoying year-on-year growth of 18 per cent, and many other Aer Lingus UK gateways also reporting double-digit rises.
Aer Lingus figures show that Manchester is the most popular starting point for UK residents travelling on their transatlantic services, followed closely by Birmingham and London Heathrow.
The new data also highlights that holidaymakers to North America make up almost 40 per cent of guests flying from the UK, compared to over a third who cross the Atlantic with Aer Lingus to visit friends and relatives.
In addition, the latest data from trade body ACI Europe shows that Aer Lingus’ home at Dublin Airport was the fastest growing major European airport during the first six months of 2016.
The hub now represents the fifth-largest transatlantic gateway in Europe, boosted by Aer Lingus services to a wealth of destinations from coast to coast including New York, Boston, Chicago, Washington, Orlando, San Francisco, Toronto, Newark, New Jersey, Hartford, Connecticut and Los Angeles.

Aer Lingus B752 at New York on Jun 26th 2016, engine indication

An Aer Lingus Boeing 757-200, registration EI-CJX performing flight EI-102 from New York JFK,NY (USA) to Dublin (Ireland), was climbing out of New York's runway 13R when the crew stopped the climb at about FL240 reporting a maintenance issue and requested to descend to 15,000 feet and enter a hold for about 15 minutes. The crew advised in the hold that they had an engine (RB211) indication requiring the return to JFK, no assistance was needed however. The aircraft landed safely on JFK's runway 13R with emergency services on stand by, the aircraft vacated the runway and advised they might need assistance due to warm brakes. Emergency services reported brakes appeared normal, they followed the aircraft to the apron.

A replacement Boeing 757-200 registration EI-LBT is estimated to reach Dublin with a delay of 4 hours.

Aer Lingus looking into Airbus A321NEOLR to replace Boeing 757 fleet – Aviation Gazette

0681723

Aer Lingus is looking at potentially replacing its fleet of Boeing 757s with between four and eight of the long range variant of the Airbus A321 for transatlantic operations, chief executive Stephen Kavanagh discloses.
Speaking to Flightglobal during the IATA AGM in Dublin, Kavanagh says Aer Lingus is “working very hard” on a business case it plans to present to owner IAG justifying the need for the narrowbody type. The move would see the Irish carrier shift to become an all-Airbus operator.
“That is a business case that we feel we can make and we will make and hopefully we will receive support from IAG. But ultimately we need to demonstrate that there capital would be well spent,” he says.
Kavanagh says the A321LR would either complement existing widebody operations in order to “invest frequency” or open up new markets.
Aer Lingus operates a fleet comprising of 1 A319, 33 A320s, three A321s, eight A330s and four 757s Flightglobal’s Fleets Analyzer database shows. The carrier has orders for two A330-300s and nine A350-900s.
