UK low-cost carrier (LCC) easyJet plans to add seven new routes from Switzerland, increasing the number of routes from Geneva to 74, from Basel to 54, and six from Zurich.
The LCC, the second largest carrier in Switzerland behindSwiss International Air Lines, will add a weekly Basel-Funchal (Madeira, Portugal) service starting from Dec. 1.
A weekly Geneva-Fuerteventura (Spain) service will begin Nov. 1; a 4X-weekly Geneva-Munich (Germany) will start Oct. 21; and a 2X-weekly Geneva-Inverness (UK, Scotland) service will begin from Nov. 1.
In addition, from Oct. 31, easyJet plans to launch 3X-weekly Zurich-Amsterdam (Netherlands), 6X-weekly Zurich-Berlin Schoenefeld (Germany) and 3X-weekly Zurich-Lisbon (Portugal) services.
EasyJet employs 850 staff in Switzerland and transports 11 million passengers annually (to and from Switzerland). It has a 42% market share in Geneva and 52% in Basle.
