TUIFly Nordic B738 flight 6B554 at Alghero, bird strike



A TUIFly Nordic Boeing 737-800, registration SE-RFU performing flight 6B-554 from Alghero (Italy) to Oslo (Norway) with 176 people on board, was in the initial climb out of Alghero's runway 02 when the aircraft flew through a flock of birds and ingested a number of them into one of the engines (CFM56) causing damage (bent fan blades) to the engine. The crew stopped the climb at about 5000 feet and returned to Alghero for a safe landing on runway 20 about 30 minutes after departure.

The passengers were taken to hotels over night.

The aircraft remained on the ground in Alghero for about 16.5 hours, then was able to depart and reached Oslo with a delay of 16.5 hours.
