Germania resumes flights to Sharm El Sheikh

Germania airline resumes nonstop flights to Sharm El Sheikh from next winter every Monday from Munich and Dusseldorf. Several companies have secured quotas, including FTI and ETI.

In May, German authorities lifted the restrictions for flights to the Egyptian resort after verifying that the security checks at the airport of the the beach destination have been significantly improved to meet international requirements.

The federal government had imposed in November 2015 additional security measures on flights to Sharm el Sheikh after a Russian passenger plane crashed shortly after takeoff. Since then, aircraft passengers and luggage had to be transported separately and holiday flights practically came to a halt.

Now, however, demand seems to pick up again. "Above all, divers, boaters and regular customers want to spend their vacation in the north of the Red Sea", FTI Manager Elia Gad has observed.

Germania A321 flight ST2276 at Bremen, bird strike

A Germania Airbus A321-200, registration D-ASTE performing flight ST-2276 from Bremen (Germany) to Adana (Turkey) with 133 passengers, was in the initial climb out of Bremen's runway 27 when an engine (CFM56) ingested birds and emitted two loud bangs and streaks of flame. The crew stopped the climb at 3000 feet, shut the engine down and returned to Bremen for a safe landing on runway 27 about 20 minutes after departure.

Bremen's police reported the engine caught fire prompting the immediate reaction by the crew and return to Bremen.

The airline reported the engine ingested birds, confirmed there were bangs and streaks of flame, however the engine never caught fire as claimed by police (editorial note: bangs and streaks of flames usually are the result of compressor stalls or engine surges as result of disruption of air flow).

Germania Group orders 25 Airbus A320neos

Germania Group has placed a firm order for 25 Airbus A320neos. The contract was signed at the Farnborough International Airshow by Karsten Balke, CEO of Germania and S.A.T., and Fabrice Brégier, President and CEO of Airbus.

Germania Group operates an Airbus fleet of ten A319s and five A321s to destinations in Europe, North Africa and the Middle East from mainly German, Swiss and UK bases. Berlin-based Germania is also the charter service provider for Airbus’ double daily flights between its largest production sites in Toulouse and Hamburg.

Germania may order 25 Airbus A320

German airline Germania is close to placing an order with European planemaker Airbus (AIR.PA) for 25 A320-family jets, two industry sources said.

The privately-held German carrier operates a mixed fleet of Airbus and Boeing jets but has said it aims to harmonise its fleet by switching to all-Airbus aircraft when it takes older Boeing 737-700s out of service.

The potential order, which could be worth over $2.5 billion at list prices, follows tough negotiations as Boeing tried to wrestle back its former customer on the eve of the Farnborough Airshow, the sources said, asking not to be named.

Germania officials could not immediately be reached for comment.

An Airbus spokesman said, "We do not comment on confidential talks which may or not be happening with our customers."

Germania A319 at Kassel on Jun 27th 2016, rejected takeoff due to bird strike

A Germania Airbus A319-100, registration D-ASTR performing flight ST-2054 from Kassel (Germany) to Heraklion (Greece) with 99 passengers, was accelerating for takeoff from Kassel's runway 27 when an engine (CFM56) ingested a bird prompting the crew to reject takeoff at high speed. The aircraft slowed safely and returned to the apron.

A replacement A319-100 registration D-ASTC reached Heraklion with a delay of 4.5 hours.

The occurrence aircraft is still on the ground about 10 hours after rejecting takeoff.
