Στην Εurowings θα ενσωματωθούν τα 40 αεροσκάφη της Air Berlin

To ένα τρίτο του στόλου αεροσκαφών της Air Berlin αναμένεται να αναλάβει η Eurowings μέσα στις ερχόμενες εβδομάδες, μετά την εκτεταμμένη συμφωνία μεταξύ του ομίλου Lufthansa και της Etihad Airways, η οποία προβλέπει τη ραγδαία διεύρυνση του αερομεταφορέα χαμηλού κόστους.

Η Lufthansa θα χρησιμοποιήσει με leasing 40 αεροσκάφη της Air Berlin (μέτοχος της Etihad), συμπεριλαμβανομένων των πληρωμάτων, για τη χειμερινή σεζόν κι έπειτα, και θα τα ενσωματώσει στην Eurowings.

Θα λανσάρει, ακόμα, συνεργασία για πτήσεις κοινού κωδικού με την Etihad, όπως προβλέπεται σε νέα συμφωνία η οποία εκκρεμεί προς έγκριση από το διοικητικό συμβούλιο της Lufthansa στα τέλη Σεπτεμβρίου.

Ως αποτέλεσμα των συμφωνιών, η Eurowings θα μπορέσει να διευρύνει σημαντικά το δίκτυό της, ειδικά σε προορισμούς πόλης και διακοπών της Ευρώπης. 

Η συμφωνία προβλέπει τη διεύρυνση της θυγατρικής της Lufthansa σε έναν αερομεταφορέα χαμηλού κόστους με 140 αεροσκάφη, που θα εκτελεί πτήσεις εσωτερικού, στην Ευρώπη και σε μακρινές αποστάσεις από διαφορετικά αεροδρόμια της Γερμανίας αλλά και της Βιέννης, της πρώτης βάσης του εκτός Γερμανίας.

Ωστόσο, η Eurowings θα χρειαστεί να ενσωματώσει στο πρόγραμμά της τα 40 αεροσκάφη μέσα σε λίγες εβδομάδες καθώς και να αναλάβει την εμπορική ευθύνη των δρομολογίων. 

Το 2017, μάλιστα, θα αποκτήσει βάση στη Μαγιόρκα (αεροδρόμιο Palma) με 2 αεροσκάφη A320s, εκεί όπου η Air Berlin διαθέτει μεγάλη βάση, προσφέροντας «πολυάριθμες πτήσεις προς τη Γερμανία και άλλες ευρωπαϊκές πόλεις». Μελλοντικά, θα ανοίξει βάση και στο Σάλσμπουργκ της Αυστρίας.

Κοντά σε συμφωνία Lufthansa και Air Berlin

Η γερμανική αεροπορική εταιρία, Lufthansa αναμένεται να δώσει την τελική έγκρισή της στα τέλη του μήνα, για την ενοικίαση περίπου 40 αεροσκαφών, αλλά και των πληρωμάτων της Air Berlin, σύμφωνα με σημερινό δημοσίευμα της εφημερίδας “Sueddeutsche Zeitung.”

Η σύμπραξη αυτή, θα βρει τη Lufthansa να ενοικιάζει αεροσκάφη και πληρώματα που δε δραστηριοποιούνται εκτός των δύο κεντρικών αεροπορικών κόμβων της Air Berlin, στο Βερολίνο και το Ντίσελντοφ, σύμφωνα με το δημοσίευμα της εφημερίδας που δε δημοσιοποίησε τις πηγές της.

Από την άλλη μεριά, η Air Berlin, που καταγράφει οικονομικές ζημίες, θα λαμβάνει προκαθορισμένες αμοιβές, ενώ η Lufthansa θα έχει το συνολικό οικονομικό ρίσκο διαχείρισης των αεροσκαφών και των πληρωμάτων τους.

Η τελική απόφαση του γερμανικού αερομεταφορέα θα ληφθεί σε συνεδρίαση του διοικητικού συμβουλίου του, που θα πραγματοποιηθεί στα τέλη Σεπτεμβρίου.

Air Berlin starts flights from Dusseldorf to Geneva from 14NOV16

On 14 November 2016, an airberlin flight will head from Dusseldorf to Geneva for the first time. 

airberlin will connect Dusseldorf with the second largest city in Switzerland up to three times a day and increase the frequency of its flights from Berlin and Dusseldorf to Zurich. This winter airberlin will be flying from Dusseldorf to Zurich 36 times a week, thus increasing its offer on this route by 16 per cent compared to last year. In its winter schedule airberlin will have 37 weekly flights from Berlin to Zurich, three times more than last year. Vienna will continue to be connected to Zurich with 23 flights per week. airberlin also flies to numerous tourist destinations from Zurich. 

“We are systematically expanding our Berlin and Dusseldorf hubs. Switzerland is an important core market for airberlin. With the inclusion of Geneva in our network, we offer prestigious companies in the region a connection to our international route network via Dusseldorf. At the same time, Geneva is an attractive destination for holiday travellers from North Rhine Westphalia and the Netherlands”, said airberlin Chief Executive Officer Stefan Pichler.  

The new flight offer connects Geneva to the airberlin intercontinental route network: the United States, Abu Dhabi and the Caribbean can be reached with a short stop in Dusseldorf. Furthermore, within Europe, travellers from Geneva will also benefit from short transfer times in Dusseldorf for flights to Hamburg, Dresden, Stockholm and Copenhagen as well as to tourist destinations such as Ponta Delgada in the Azores, Keflavik in Iceland, or the flower island of Madeira. 

airberlin is massively increasing its long-haul route network to the United States and expanding the summer 2017 offer by approximately 50 per cent, from 55 to 78 non-stop flights per week from Berlin and Dusseldorf. Orlando is a new destination in the airline’s route network from Dusseldorf. From Berlin, the two Californian destinations of San Francisco and Los Angeles will be added to the programme with three and four flights a week, respectively.

Air Berlin AB7024 A332 returned to Dusseldorf, hydraulic failure

An Air Berlin Airbus A330-200, registration D-ALPF performing flight AB-7024 from Dusseldorf (Germany) to Havana (Cuba), was in the initial climb out of Dusseldorf's runway 05R when the crew stopped the climb at 5000 feet due to a hydraulic failure. The aircraft entered a hold to work the checklists and burn off fuel, the crew performed an alternate gear extension and returned to Dusseldorf for a safe landing on runway 05R about 45 minutes after departure.

A replacement Airbus A330-200 registration D-ALPD is estimated to reach Havana with a delay of 7.5 hours.

Όπως μαρτυρούν οι αριθμοί αλλά και οι ίδιοι οι υπεύθυνοι της εταιρείας, τα ποσοστά των απωλειών είναι πολύ μεγαλύτερα σε σχέση με την περσινή χρονιά, και αυτό οφείλεται σε μεγάλο βαθμό στις τρομοκρατικές ενέργειες και στην πολιτική αστάθεια πολλών χωρών, οι οποίες αποτελούν προορισμό του γερμανικού αερομεταφορέα.

Η γερμανική αεροπορική εταιρεία, airberlin, ανακοίνωσε πριν λίγες ημέρες καθαρή ζημία ύψους 89,1 εκατ. ευρώ για το δεύτερο τρίμηνο του 2016, σε σχέση με την ίδια περίοδο του προηγούμενου έτους όπου τα στοιχεία ανέρχονταν στο ήμισυ των τωρινών (37,5 εκατ. Ευρώ). Οι πωλήσεις για την περίοδο Απριλίου-Ιουνίου μειώθηκαν κατά 9,4% (970,6 εκατ. ευρώ). Η συνολική ζημία της εταιρείας για το πρώτο μισό του 2016 ανέρχεται στα 271,5 εκατ. ευρώ.   Όπως μαρτυρούν οι αριθμοί αλλά και οι ίδιοι οι υπεύθυνοι της εταιρείας, τα ποσοστά των απωλειών είναι πολύ μεγαλύτερα σε σχέση με την περσινή χρονιά, και αυτό οφείλεται σε μεγάλο βαθμό στις τρομοκρατικές ενέργειες και στην πολιτική αστάθεια πολλών χωρών, οι οποίες αποτελούν προορισμό του γερμανικού αερομεταφορέα.    Μεγάλο ποσοστό των πωλήσεων της airberlin προέρχεται από τα ταξίδια αναψυχής. Αυτό έχει ως αποτέλεσμα να προκύψουν τα παραπάνω αρνητικά στοιχεία για την δεύτερη μεγαλύτερη αεροπορική εταιρεία της Γερμανίας.   Ο διευθύνων σύμβουλος της airberlin, Stefan Pichler, ανέφερε χαρακτηριστικά: “Η ζήτηση, ιδιαίτερα για πτήσεις σε προορισμούς διακοπών, επηρεάστηκε αρνητικά από τις τρομοκρατικές επιθέσεις στην Ευρώπη και είχε μεγάλο και αρνητικό αντίκτυπο στις επιδόσεις της εταιρείας. Air Berlin deepens losses in second quarter of 2016

Germany-based airberlin has reported an €89.1 million ($99 million) net loss for the 2016 second quarter, widened from a €37.5 million loss in 2Q 2015. For the first half, the carrier reported a €271.5 million loss, deepened from a 1H loss of €247.6 million year-over-year (YOY).

Airberlin CEO Stefan Pichler said that while airberlin delivered on its goal to improve its cost structure, the 2016 2Q was more challenging than expected on volumes and yield. “The demand, especially on flights to holiday destinations, suffered from terrorist attacks in Europe and had a major and negative impact on airberlin’s financial performance,” he said.

With up to one-third of the carrier’s revenue generated by leisure travel, the airline was hit particularly hard by the volatile political situation in traditional holiday destinations of Turkey, Greece and North Africa.

Second-quarter revenue decreased to €970.6 million, down 9.4% YOY. Total sales declined 8.4% to €1.71 billion in the 1H.

“Although capacity was shifted to other Mediterranean destinations—such as Palma de Mallorca and the Canary Islands—overcapacity in the Spanish market resulted in depressed fares compared to the previous year,” Pichler said.

Second-quarter traffic decreased 4.1% YOY to 11.69 billion RPKs on a 3.7% YOY capacity decline to 14.32 billion ASKs, producing a load factor of 81.6%, down 0.4 point from 2Q in 2015. Total costs for the quarter were €1.04 billion, down 6.9% YOY; yield declined in the 2Q 6.4% to 7.33 euro cents YOY.

“On the positive side, unit costs decreased by 3.3% in the second quarter of 2016, compared to the second quarter of 2015,” Pichler said. Ongoing pressure caused by the highly volatile and weak market environment will impact also 3Q. Moreover, it remains uncertain how global instability will affect general consumer behavior. 

“We are in the midst of a restructuring process … airberlin will continue to build a strong network carrier with two hubs in Berlin and Dusseldorf, enhancing its long-haul flying to the US, and focusing its customer proposition to suit the needs of the high-yield passenger segment,” Pichler said. However, Pichler remained confident that Germany’s second biggest airline will navigate through the challenging market conditions.

On Aug. 3, airberlin said it will increase flights to the US up to 50% by summer 2017, from 55 to 78 weekly nonstop flights from Berlin and Dusseldorf compared to this summer. It will receive three additional Airbus A330-200s to operate the extended flight program.

On Aug 8, airberlin and its Austria-based subsidiary FlyNiki announced both carriers will introduce business class on German domestic and European flights this year.

Air Berlin to launch Los Angeles & San Francisco flights from May 2017

airberlin continues to expand its hub in Berlin-Tegel with two attractive non-stop destinations on the West Coast of the United States - Los Angeles and San Francisco.

Berlin’s largest airline will also be increasing the frequency of its services to New York, Chicago and Miami.

As from May 1st, 2017, there will be four weekly airberlin flights to San Francisco, and from May 2nd the airline will be flying three times a week to Los Angeles.

As such, airberlin will be the only airline offering non-stop flights to these two cities from Berlin.

As from this winter, there will be more long-haul services from Berlin to Chicago, Miami and New York.

There will be a daily flight to New York.

From summer 2017, airberlin will be flying ten times a week to the biggest city in the US.

This winter, the service frequency to Chicago will be increased by adding a Thursday flight, taking the total number of flights per week to five.

There will also be more flights to Miami as from this winter, with the number of weekly flights rising to four.

For the first time, the airline will also be operating this service in the summer months, meaning that from next summer there will be three weekly flights to Florida all year round.

The new flights will be operated with Airbus A330-200 aircraft, configured with 19 Business Class seats and 271 Economy Class seats, of which 46 will be XL seats with more legroom.

Air Berlin increases the flights to US in summer 2017

Germany-based airberlin will increase flights to the US up to 50% by summer 2017, from 55 to 78 weekly nonstop flights from Berlin and Dusseldorf compared to this summer.

“At our hub in Berlin Tegel and Dusseldorf, airberlin is the carrier with the highest number of flights to the US already this year. By further enhancing our long-haul network, we continue to strengthen our leading market position and sharpen our profile as a network carrier with a highly attractive portfolio,” airberlin CEO Stefan Pichler said in a statement.

New 5X-weekly Dusseldorf-Orlando services will start from May 6, 2017. In addition, 4X-weekly flights from Dusseldorf to Boston Logan become daily, and 5X-weekly Dusseldorf to San Francisco flights will be upgraded to daily services next summer. The total number of weekly flights from Dusseldorf to the US will rise 24% compared to summer 2016.

From airberlin’s Berlin Tegel hub, the number of weekly US flights will increase 93% in 2017. New flights from the German capital are 4X-weekly to San Francisco and 3X-weekly to Los Angeles, from the beginning of May. Berlin-New York JFK will increase by three additional frequencies up to 10 flights per week.

Oneworld member airberlin will receive three additional Airbus A330-200s to operate the extended flight program. The A330s are equipped with 19 business class seats, 271 economy class seats, including 46 XL seats, which offer around 20% more legroom.

In total, airberlin will fly nonstop to eight US-destinations in summer 2017 from Dusseldorf and Berlin to New York JFK, Boston, Chicago O’Hare, Miami, Orlando, Fort Myers, San Francisco and Los Angeles.

The Lufthansa Group in talks to buy Air Berlin routes for Eurowings

The Lufthansa Group has opened talks with rival carrier and Etihad Airways equity partner, Air Berlin over the possible transfer of an undisclosed number of the latter's routes to Eurowings.

German daily Handelsblatt says Lufthansa has focussed on the assumption of forty leased aircraft as well as routes that do not originate at either of Air Berlin's main Dusseldorf and Berlin Tegel hubs.

Though the exact routes under scrutiny were not disclosed, the ch-aviation route database shows that Air Berlin routes, exclusive of Berlin and Dusseldorf, focus on Germany (domestic) as well as Mediterranean and North African leisure destinations in Italy, Spain, Croatia, Greece, Israel, Malta, Portugal, Egypt, and Morocco. Select services are also offered to Austria, Kosovo, Iceland, Jersey, and Switzerland.

The talks are slated to end by October.

Air Berlin's financial woes are no secret with it having reported a EUR446.6 million loss in 2015, deepened from a EUR376.7 million loss the year before. For the first quarter of this year, Air Berlin reported an improved financial net loss of EUR182.3 million (USD206.2 million), narrowed from a EUR210.1 million loss for the same period last year.

Η Etihad προσέφυγε στα δικαστήρια για τη προστασία της επένδυσής της στην airberlin - Travelling News

Η Etihad Airways άσκησε νέα αγωγή σε μια προσπάθεια να ανατρέψει την απόφαση του γερμανικού δικαστηρίου να ανακαλέσει την έγκριση για 29 πτήσεις κοινού κωδικού με την airberlin.


Πριν από λίγες εβδομάδες, το διοικητικό δικαστήριο του Braunschweig αποφάσισε ότι το Γερμανικό Υπουργείο Μεταφορών είχε το δικαίωμα να απορρίψει τις 29 πτήσεις κοινού κωδικού της Etihad Airways και της airberlin, οι οποίες είχαν εγκριθεί για τη λειτουργία τους μόνο έως τις 15 Ιανουαρίου του 2016.

Δεδομένου ότι το δικόγραφο της προσφυγής κατατέθηκε στο ανώτατο διοικητικό δικαστήριο του Lüneburg πριν από λίγες ημέρες, ο Πρόεδρος και Διευθύνων Σύμβουλος της Etihad Airways, James Hogan, επανέλαβε τη σταθερή υποστήριξη της αεροπορικής εταιρείας στην airberlin, λέγοντας ότι παραμένει προσηλωμένη στον γερμανικό αερομεταφορέα, στον ανταγωνισμό και στην επιλογή του καταναλωτή για τους γερμανικούς ταξιδιώτες.

«Με την airberlin, συνεργαζόμαστε για να εξασφαλίσουμε ότι κανένας ταξιδιώτης δεν θα επηρεαστεί από το αποτέλεσμα αυτής της διαμάχης και όλες οι κρατήσεις θα διεξαχθούν».

«Θα αγωνιστούμε για να προστατεύσουμε την επένδυσή μας, τη συνεργασία μας με airberlin και το ανταγωνιστικό μας πλεονέκτημα στα γερμανικά αεροπορικά ταξίδια».

Ο κ. Hogan εξέφρασε τη δέσμευση της Etihad Airways στην airberlin που ήταν σε πλήρη αντίθεση με την έλλειψη υποστήριξης του Γερμανικού Υπουργείου Μεταφορών, για μια περήφανη γερμανική αεροπορική εταιρεία.

Η Etihad Airways απέκτησε το 29,2 τοις εκατό των μετοχών της airberlin το 2011, ύστερα από ενθάρρυνση των γερμανικών περιφερειακών εκπροσώπων των εθνικών κυβερνήσεων. Οι αεροπορικές εταιρείες είχαν λάβει έγκριση για πτήσεις κοινού κωδικού σε συνολικά 63 αεροπορικές γραμμές, παρέχοντας στους Γερμανούς ταξιδιώτες νέες επιλογές σε προορισμούς σε όλο τον κόσμο. Το καλοκαίρι του 2014, το Γερμανικό Υπουργείο Μεταφορών είχε εγείρει ανησυχίες σχετικά με 29 πτήσεις κοινού κωδικού, κατόπιν άσκησης πιέσεως από την αεροπορική εταιρεία Lufthansa, και το Νοέμβριο του 2015 ενέκρινε τις 29 αυτές πτήσεις μόνο έως τις 15 Ιανουαρίου του 2016. Ο κ. «Τώρα, μετά από τέσσερα χρόνια επενδύοντας στη Γερμανία, έχοντας υποστηρίξει τις θέσεις εργασίας της airberlin, καθώς και τη δημιουργία δικών μας νέων θέσεων απασχόλησης στη Γερμανία, οι κανόνες αλλάζουν».

«Ως παγκόσμια επιχείρηση, έχουμε επικεντρωθεί στις επενδύσεις μας σε αγορές οι οποίες θα προσφέρουν μακροπρόθεσμες αποδόσεις. Το περιβάλλον μας ενθάρρυνε να επενδύσουν στην airberlin. Ωστόσο, από την  αρχική επένδυση που κάναμε, έχουμε αντιμετωπίσει μια σειρά σημαντικών προκλήσεων, συμπεριλαμβανομένης της εισαγωγής των φόρων αεροδρομίου, που μείωσαν άμεσα την κερδοφορία της airberlin».

airberlin introduces on-board 3G internet | Breaking Travel News

airberlin is installing 3G connectivity across its entire long-haul fleet, becoming the first airline to offer the AeroMobile 3G eXPhone service.

The first aircraft to be equipped with the new service is an Airbus A330-200 with the registration D-ABXC.

Passengers can use their own 3G-enabled mobile devices to send text messages and surf the internet with the same quality as on the ground.

Telephony will remain prohibited on airberlin flights.

To date, aircraft have relied upon 2.5G connectivity.

The new 3G service means passengers will enjoy faster connections on board.

The service is easy to use: passengers simply switch on their mobile device or smartphone, disable airplane mode and connect to the on-board 3G network.

Charges are set by passengers home mobile service providers and added to their monthly bill.

The new 3G service is part of “airberlin connect”, the airline’s internet service.
airberlin is the first German airline to offer internet access not only on long-haul routes, but also on short- and medium-haul flights.

The internet service brings airberlin passengers on short and medium-haul flights an entertainment menu featuring TV series and films, which can also be enjoyed on passengers’ own devices.

Passengers can enjoy the perfect personal entertainment programme, selected from more than 180 hours of films and TV.

On long-haul flights, passengers will continue to enjoy the RAVE in-seat entertainment system.
