A Thomson Airways Boeing 757-200, registration G-OOBP performing flight BY-2200 from Manchester,EN (UK) to Skiathos (Greece) with 226 people on board, was on approach to Skiathos when the crew stopped the descent at 4000 feet due to problems with the flaps. The crew subsequently decided to divert to Athens (Greece), climbed the aircraft to FL100, advised on approach to Athens that a normal landing would occur and no services were needed. The aircraft landed safely in Athens at a normal speed about one hour after aborting the approach to Skiathos.
The aircraft remained on the ground in Athens for about 2 hours, then "hopped" over to Skiathos for a 20 minute flight and subsequently performed the return flight.
