Power outage at JFK Airport's Terminal 8

A power outage at a section of JFK Airport in Queens is causing some delays and terminal inconveniences Tuesday afternoon.

The outage at Terminal 8 has caused escalators and elevators to stop working.

American Airlines said this is not a complete power outage, and the screening of checked bags may be delayed. The airline is allowing customers to change travel plans without a fee by visiting its travel alert website: aa.com/travelalerts

The outage first happened at 1:50 p.m. Power was coming back on, but then there was a surge and power was lost again.

Flights are delayed right now because of the weather, not the partial outage, according to AA.

Terminal 8 is the same section of the airport that was put on lockdown Sunday night after reports of gunshots inside the terminal. Police sources later said the noise was later traced to celebratory applause for the Olympics.
