Vietnam Airlines B772 flight VN249 returned to Hanoi, bird strike



A Vietnam Airlines Boeing 777-200, registration VN-A143 performing flight VN-249 from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam) with 229 people on board, was climbing out of Hanoi when the crew stopped the climb at about 8000 feet reporting they needed to shut the left hand engine (PW4084) down and returned to Hanoi for a safe landing about 20 minutes after departure.

A replacement Boeing 777-200 registration VN-A146 reached Ho Chi Minh City with a delay of 2 hours.

The airline reported maintenance found a number of dead birds in the left hand engine.

The occurrence aircraft is still on the ground 64 hours after landing.
