Delta DL219 B763 returned to Copenhagen, bird strike

A Delta Airlines Boeing 767-300, registration N194DN performing flight DL-219 from Copenhagen (Denmark) to New York JFK,NY (USA) with 270 people on board, had departed Copenhagen's runway 22R and was climbing out of Copenhagen cleared to climb to FL250 when Copenhagen departure told the crew tower had observed a fire ball from the left hand engine (PW4060) during the departure roll. The crew immediately decided to stop the climb and return to Copenhagen advising air traffic control that all indications were normal, they would return immediately just slightly overweight. The aircraft stopped the climb at FL090 and landed safely back on Copenhagen's runway 22L about 20 minutes after departure.

A passenger reported the crew announced they had received a bird strike into the left hand engine.

The occurrence aircraft is still on the ground in Copenhagen about 9 hours after landing.
