China Southern A320 flight CZ3510 diverted to Hefei afrer hail strike



A China Southern Airbus A320-200, registration B-6287 performing flight CZ-3510 from Jinan to Guangzhou (China) with 124 passengers and 8 crew, was climbing out of Jinan when the crew stopped the climb at 7500 meters (FL246) after encountering a hail strike that caused the outer panes of both windshields to crack. The crew decided to divert to Hefei about 290nm south of Jinan, entered a hold at 3000 meters (9840 feet) to burn off fuel and to prepare the approach and landing, and performed a safe landing about 90 minutes after stopping the climb.

A replacement A320-200 registration B-6255 reached Guangzhou with a delay of 5.5 hours.
