American A321 flight AA438 at Dallas, engine shut down in flight



An American Airlines Airbus A321-200, registration N562UW performing flight AA-438 from Dallas Ft. Worth,TX to Seattle,WA (USA) with 139 passengers, was in the initial climb out Dallas Ft. Worth's runway 18L when the right hand engine emitted a series of bangs and streaks of flame prompting the crew to stop the climb at 3000 feet and return to Dallas. A runway inspection did not find any debris on the runway. The aircraft positioned for a safe landing on runway 18L about 20 minutes after departure.

The airline as well as the FAA reported the engine suffered compressor stalls.
