Rio de Janeiro's Tom Jobim International Airport is on target to open its South Pier this April – four months ahead of the start of the 2016 Olympic Games.

According to operator, RIOgaleão, Terminal 2's new 100,000sqm South Pier will add 14 new air conditioned boarding gates, 11 new shops and F&B outlets and 260,000sqm of apron – the equivalent of 24 football pitches.

Being added as part of a R$2 billion investment programme, the South Pier will boast 1,300 tons of metal and 55,500 metres of cables, including more than 13,000 metres of electronic cables.
BridgesThe new complex will allow Dufry to complete the doubling of the size of its duty free retail offering at the airport from 4,000 to 8,000sqm.

Tom Jobim is the second largest airport in the country and the major getaway for Brazil and South America, handling around 17 million passengers per annum.

Airport concessionaire RIOgaleão comprises Odebrecht TransPort, Changi Airports International (CAI) and Infraero, the government-owned partner holding a 49% stake in the gateway.
