Melbourne Airport welcomed its inaugural Airbus A350 service, with the arrival of Singapore Airlines' (SIA) flight SQ207 on Aug. 10. Singapore Airlines will deploy the A350 to Melbourne through Oct. 22 when it will be redeployed on nonstop flights between Singapore and San Francisco from Oct. 23.
SIA took delivery of its first A350 in March. The aircraft is configured in a premium three-class layout with 253 seats, comprising 42 business, 24 premium-economy and 187 economy class.
The Singapore flag carrier has ordered 67 A350-900s, which will be operated on long-range flights, as well as on selected regional services.
Melbourne Airport chief of aviation Simon Gandy said, “The A350 is the newest aircraft in the world boasting a number of improvements aimed at greater efficiency and improved passenger experience. International passengers traveling with Singapore Airlines to and from Victoria will have the opportunity to travel on this new aircraft over the coming months.”
