United B752 at Shannon on Jul 11th 2016, unsafe main gear



A United Boeing 757-200, registration N29129 performing flight UA-25 (dep Jul 10th) from Newark,NJ (USA) to Shannon (Ireland) with 172 people on board, was on final approach to Shannon's runway 24 when the crew went around and entered a hold to work their checklists. After completing the checklists the crew reported the right hand main gear did not indicate green (down and locked), however, they were confident that the gear was down and locked, they were declaring emergency now and advised they would need to full length of the runway. They would not perform a low approach but go for a full stop landing right away. The aircraft landed safely on runway 24 and stopped for an inspection of the gear before turning around to backtrack the runway to the apron.

The occurrence aircraft remained on the ground for 3:45 hours then was able to depart for its next sector UA-67 to Chicago O'Hare,IL (USA).
