Sharjah International Airport recorded 11.55 per cent increase in passenger traffic in the first half of the year, said a press statement on Sunday.
A total of 5.35 million passengers passed through the airport from January to June 2016, compared to 4.79 million in the same period last year. The aircraft movements also increased by 5.74 per cent from 34,270 to more than 36,237. The freight handled for the same period of this year recorded 92,000 tons.
Ali Salim Al Midfa, Chairman of Sharjah Airport Authority, said robust passenger traffic growth continued in the first-half of this year, driven by new routes and frequencies by Air Arabia and new airlines which launched flights to Sharjah International Airport.
Sheikh Faisal Bin Saoud Al Qassimi, Director of Sharjah Airport Authority, said: "Sharjah International Airport became the preferred travelling option of many people because of the efficiency of procedures, excellent services, and its strategic location. We will continue to offer the best services and provide more choices for passengers."
