Emergency runway closure immediately due to soft spot in main Runway 06/24 to avoid damage to aircraft. Closure is upon risk assessment made by airport authorities.
Expected flight diversions until on or about 10 p.m. today. Flights using aircraft A320 and below may use Runway 13/31 for flight operations.
The broken runway coating damaged flaps of a Boeing 747.
Expected resumption of flights as of 10 p.m. today. To cope with expected influx of diverted flights, MIAA will forego its regular runway cleaning usually done daily from 1:30 a.m. to 3:30 a.m.
