Azul A332 at Recife on May 31st 2016, smell of smoke on board

An Azul Linhas Aereas Airbus A330-200, registration PR-AIT performing flight AD-6970 from Recife,PE to Sao Paulo Viracopos,SP (Brazil) with 257 people on board, was climbing out of Recife when the crew stopped the climb at FL330 reporting a strong smell of smoke on board. The aircraft returned to Recife for a safe landing on runway 18 about 55 minutes after departure.

The aircraft remained on the ground for 2.5 hours, then departed again and reached Viracopos Airport with a delay of 3.5 hours.

The airline reported a technical problem on the aircraft, the passengers were asked to disembark, maintenance was performed and the aircraft was cleared to fly.
