Baltimore/Washington International (BWI) is set to become, from August 1, 2016, the latest city in the United States to receive the Boeing 787 Dreamliner.
The airline reported in a mailed statement that the route, currently served by its 189-seat Boeing 767-300 fleet, will be upgauged with the 787-8, configured with a 3-class cabin configuration, offering 35 lie-flat business class seats, 25 “Traveller Plus” premium economy seats and 154 in standard economy class.
BWI set a new all-time monthly record for passenger traffic this last July, when 2.3 million passengers traveled through the airport. Much of this recent growth has been attributed to an increase in international traffic. Reported August numbers also point to an increase of 5 percent over August 2014, equivalent to 2.1 million travelers.
“With this summer in the record books, growth at BWI Marshall continues to demonstrate the strength of Maryland and its position as an international gateway,” said Governor Larry Hogan.
“For business and leisure travelers, London Heathrow is the single most important transatlantic international gateway,” said Ricky Smith, Chief Executive Officer of BWI Marshall Airport. “British Airways has provided our customers with renowned quality and customer service for many years. We appreciate the new Dreamliner aircraft, which will be an upgrade for our travelers.”
Baltimore will become the next destination in United States to receive the British Airways Dreamliners after Newark, Philadelphia, San Jose and Austin.
