Airberlin will fly out of D/FW Airport next spring

Come next summer, North Texas travelers will have access to another new international carrier at the Dallas Fort Worth International Airport.

Airberlin, Germany’s second largest airline, will operate four weekly flights from DFW Airport to Dusseldorf, Germany, starting on May 6. The Airbus 330-200 flights will operate onMondayWednesdayFriday and Sunday.
“We are excited to welcome oneworld partner airberlin to the Dallas-Fort Worth area as they bring another key European destination to DFW’s growing portfolio of international flights,” said Sean Donohue, CEO of DFW Airport. “This new service to Dusseldorf will benefit our customers by providing more flight options and more connectivity to Europe.”
DFW Airport, the nation’s fourth busiest, sees more than 63 million travelers a year fying to more than 200 destinations worldwide.
Airberlin CEO Stefan Pichler said the expansion is part of the airline’s strategy to offer more flights to the United States.
“Demand for flights to the U.S. remains high, and adding Dallas-Fort Worth to our U.S.-network, we can offer even more travel options and combinations to our passengers,” Pichler said in a statement. “We see a high potential in the important business travel market, where we aim to score points thanks to a stable route network and our excellent product.”
Overall, airberlin will launch 15 new weekly flights starting next summer to the United States from Dusseldorf and Berlin for a  total of 58 weekly U.S. flights. In addition to D-FW, it will offer new service to Boston and San Francisco and additional weekly flights to New York and Los Angeles.
Airberlin will offer special promotional round-trip airfare of $1,099, including all taxes, if travelers book a ticket from Nov. 13 through Nov. 23. Special fares for other destinations, such as Berlin, Munich, Copenhagen, Milan and Vienna, also may be available.
Airberlin carried more than 31.7 million passengers to 138 destinations worldwide last year. Etihad Airways owns a 29.2 percent share of airberlin.
