Avianca A320 flight AV39 near Miami, turbulence cracks cabin window

An Avianca Airbus A320-200, registration N745AV performing flight AV-39 from Miami,FL (USA) to Cali (Colombia) with about 120 people on board, was climbing out of Miami when the aircraft encountered turbulence twice causing a cabin window to crack. The crew stopped the climb at FL310 about 110nm south of Miami about 20 minutes into the flight at about 22:00Z, descended the aircraft to 10,000 feet to burn off fuel and landed safely back on Miami's runway 09 about 75 minutes after departure.

Passengers reported the aircraft appeared to drop/fall substantially for several seconds about 20 minutes into the flight then stabilized again, about 5 minutes the aircraft again appeared to drop and stabilized again. The captain subsequently announced they had encountered turbulence and they were returning to Miami due to a cracked cabin window.

Avianca Brasil has agreed for 62 Airbus A320neo



Synergy Aerospace Corporation, the largest shareholder of Colombia-based Avianca (AV, Bogotá) and the owner of Avianca Brasil (O6, Rio de Janeiro Santos Dumont), has finalized a Purchase Agreement with Airbus Industrie (AIB, Toulouse Blagnac) for sixty-two A320neo Family aircraft. 

The order, which was first announced as a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the Paris Airshow 2015, was firmed during a ceremony held at the 2016 Farnborough International Airshow.

Synergy plans to use the aircraft to renew its Brazilian asset's fleet which currently consists of fifteen A318-100s, four A319-100s, twenty-six A320-200s, and one A330-200(F).

“These A320neo will allow Avianca Brasil to take an important leap toward growing and modernizing its fleet in a profitable and sustainable manner, while improving passenger experience,” Alex Bialer, Chairman of the Board, Synergy Group, said.

Norwegian begins 2X-weekly Edinburgh-Barcelona service.
Etihad Airways and Avianca Brazil signed a codeshare agreement.
AirBridgeCargo Airlines began 2X-weekly Moscow SVO-Chongqing service.
Nile Air begins 3X-weekly Cairo-Istanbul SAW service July 7 and 4X-weekly -Al-Ain service begins June 29. Both routes are flown with Airbus A320s.
Etihad Cargo has started a 2X-weekly Abu Dhabi-Brussels BRU service.

Avianca Brazil A319 at Ilheus on Jun 16th 2016, bird strike



An Avianca Brazil Airbus A319-100, registration PR-AVD performing flight O6-6326 from Brasilia,DF to Ilheus,BA (Brazil), was on approach to Ilheus' runway 11 when a vulture impacted the nose of the aircraft "slightly" rearranging the nose cone. The crew continued for a safe landing on runway 11.

The aircraft was unable to depart for the onward flights, the rest of the rotation was cancelled.

Avianca A332 near Salta on Jun 4th 2016, turbulence injures 23



An Avianca Airbus A330-200, registration N279AV performing flight AV-965 from Lima (Peru) to Buenos Aires Ezeiza,BA (Argentina), was enroute at FL410 about 90nm south of Salta,SA (Argentina) when the aircraft encountered severe turbulence causing altitude deviations of -100/+150 feet. 23 occupants received injuries as result of the upset. The aircraft continued to Buenos Aires for a safe landing about 80 minutes later.

Ezeiza Airport confirmed 23 injuries on board of flight AV-965. 

The occurrence aircraft remained on the ground for 6 hours, then departed Buenos Aires for the return flight.

Avianca Re-Schedules Boeing 787 Los Angeles Introduction to Jan 2016 | Airline Route

                                   


Star Alliance member Avianca is delaying planned Dreamliner introduction on Bogota – Los Angelesroute, which sees the first 787 operating flight scheduled on 01JAN16. Previously Avianca planned to operate this 4 weekly flights from 18DEC15.
