United A320 flight UA1618 returned to Denver, bird strike



A United Airbus A320-200, registration N431UA performing flight UA-1618 from Denver, CO to Washington Dulles,DC (USA) with 153 people on board, was in the initial climb out of Denver's runway 08 when the left hand engine (V2527) ingested a number of birds prompting the crew to stop the climb at 11,000 feet and return to Denver for a safe landing on runway 17R about 20 minutes after departure.

The flight was cancelled, the passengers were rebooked onto other flights.

The FAA reported the #1 engine ingested birds on departure, the damage is being assessed.
