Gun fired accidentally in Vueling's flight

Passengers were alarmed when a police officer's gun accidentally fired onboard a plane.

The incident occurred at Ibiza Airport on Saturday, when a Vueling A320 aircraft was set to depart for Madrid, the capital of Spain.

A police agent on the flight was handing over his suitcase containing the pistol to the captain for safe-keeping, when the gun discharged, the Evening Standard reported.

One shot was fired, and the bullet remained in the case.

Travellers told Noudiari.es that they heard the gunshot, before the smell of gunpowder filled the cabin.

No one was hurt, but the incident "sparked unrest" among the passengers.

The flight was delayed for half an hour while engineers checked no damage had been done to the plane.

A spokesman for Vueling told the Mirror Online that the incident was "minor" and "without further consequences for the passengers and crew or the plane".
