EVA Airways has finalised its order for up to 24 Boeing 787-10 Dreamliners and two Boeing 777-300 Extended Ranges (ER) in a deal worth $8 billion.
The Taiwanese carrier is purchasing the aircraft to modernise its fleet, with the intention of retiring older units. It also plans to increase its fleet by more than 100 by 2020. EVA will be using the aircraft on medium and long haul routes.
Boeing Commercial Airplanes president and chief executive officer, Ray Conner says: “We are honoured to welcome EVA Airways as Boeing’s newest member of the 787-10 Dreamliner launch customer group. For many years, EVA Air has been pushing the boundaries of aviation. Ten years ago, EVA was a launch customer for the 777-300ER.”
“With today’s order, Boeing is proud to continue playing an integral role in recognising Taiwan’s aviation history as EVA becomes one of the first customers around the world to operate the 787-10.”
EVA president, Austin Cheng says: “The new Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner’s high fuel efficiency and long-range flying capabilities meets these requirements and our operational needs. These planes will support our growth well into the future.”
Boeing says the 787-10 offers a 25 per cent improvement in fuel economy and emissions compared to aircraft it replaces. EVA has 37 Boeings on order, consisting of 14 777-300ERs, five Boeing 777 Freighters and 18 787-10s.
