Air Canada has announced plans to launch a major expansion in the United States starting in May 2016. Many of the new flights will connect United hubs to Air Canada hubs in Canada, but the airlines is also planning to start flying to new destinations such as Jacksonville, Salt Lake City, and San Jose.

As such, we are pleased to strengthen our market presence, particularly as the U.S. is the top destination for Canadian travelers and Canada is one of the most popular destinations for Americans. These new routes will make it easier for international travelers flying from and to the U.S. to connect to Air Canada’s global network through its major Canadian hubs. Additionally, customers traveling in the U.S. or from Latin America on our partner United Airlines will have more travel options and connection opportunities at UA’s hubs in Houston, Denver, San Francisco and Washington-Dulles,” said Benjamin Smith, President, Passenger Airlines, at Air Canada.

The Phoenix and San Diego flights will be operated by Air Canada Rouge; the new Washington, Houston, Jacksonville, San Francisco, and San Jose flights will be operated by Air Canada Express. A E175 will be used to operate the new Denver and Houston flights.
A few years ago, Air Canada attempted to enter the Salt Lake City market, but it did not last long as Delta up-gaged to a larger aircraft and underpriced Air Canada to help push them out of the market.
Meanwhile, San Jose is very happy to have Air Canada enter the market; it is the fourth international airline to announce new service out of SJC this year.
In other Air Canada news, the flight attendants and the company reached a deal to ensure there is no lockout nor strike over the next decade. “This landmark agreement follows the milestone 10-year agreement reached with our pilots last October and is the fifth collective agreement reached with unions representing our employees over the past year,” said Air Canada president and CEO Calin Rovinescu.
