Air Berlin (AB, Berlin Tegel) is planning to end domestic Spanish operations next summer the El Mundo newspaper has revealed. According to the ch-aviation route database, Air Berlin currently serves Alicante, Bilbao, Ibiza, Jerez de la Frontera, Malaga, Seville, and Valencia Manises from Palma.
Though the German leisure operator is planning to end hub operations out of Palma de Mallorca Son Sant Joan, it will continue to rely on the Balearic island as a mainstay of its tourism network growing its connectivity with Germany, Austria, and Switzerland by 9% next year.
Loss-making Air Berlin is in the midst of a restructuring programme which is focussed on reducing the complexity of its network among other objectives.
